The closest ski area to Christchurch City, Porters is a family focused resort, with a complete range of ski and snowboard terrain to suit all abilities.
Spectacular panoramic mountain vistas from atop Porters feature pristine Lake Coleridge, rows of snow-capped Southern Alps and the sweeping, flat Canterbury Plains. With 600 hectares of skiable terrain and just over 600 metres of vertical drop, there is plenty of scope for all skiers and riders – from beginners on the magic carpet to off-piste terrain.
Porters installed a new, 689m long, four-seater chairlift for the 2015 season to replace its first T-bar. The new lift opens up more terrain and carries up to 2000 people per hour, double the T-bar capacity.
TRANSPORT
Porters is a little more than an hour’s easy driving from Christchurch. However before you head off, remember to check the snow report to see if chains are required. You can also jump on the free shuttle bus that runs from the chain-fitting area on the Porters Ski Area access road on days when chains are required.
Please note that during the July school holidays and on weekends, the mountain road shuttle operates at 9.30 and 10.30am, but only on days when chains are required.
ON THE MOUNTAIN
Fully licenced, serving food, barista coffee, real hot chocolate and refreshing beers and wine, Porters’ café is the ideal place to recharge your batteries and get you fully refreshed back on the slopes.
Ski and snowboard rentals are available on the mountain, as well as the ticket office and shop. Porters’ lifts include 1 Beginners Carpet lift, 1 Intermediate Platter lift, 1 4-seater chair lift and 3 T-bar lifts.
